Rocky Mountains vs Smokey Mountains: Which is Better for Hiking?

If you’re looking for an amazing hiking experience, you have two great options in the United States – the Rocky Mountains and the Smokey Mountains. So, which is better? In this blog post, we’ll compare hiking in the Rockies and hiking in the Smokey Mountains to help you decide!

Both the Rocky Mountains and the Smokey Mountains offer stunning scenery, but they have different types of terrain. The Rocky Mountains are known for their rocky, mountainous terrain, while the Smokey Mountains are known for their rolling hills. If you’re looking for a more challenging hike, the Rocky Mountains may be a better option. However, if you’re looking for a more relaxed hike, the Smokey Mountains may be a better option.

Both the Rocky Mountains and the Smokey Mountains offer beautiful views, but the Rocky Mountains tend to have more snow-capped peaks. If you’re looking to see some amazing scenery, the Rocky Mountains are probably a better option. However, if you’re looking to avoid the cold, the Smokey Mountains may be a better option.

The Rocky Mountains are located in the western United States, while the Smokey Mountains are located in the eastern United States. Both mountain ranges are easy to access in the US by car. If you want to fly in, Denver has a huge international airport that will put you within 30-45 minutes of the Rockies. The closest airport to the Smokey Mountains is in Asheville, which is about an hour drive from the mountains.

So, which is better – hiking in the Rocky Mountains or hiking in the Smokey Mountains? There’s no easy answer. It depends on what you’re looking for in a hike. If you’re looking for a more challenging hike with beautiful scenery, the Rocky Mountains may be a better option. However, if you’re looking for a more relaxed hike with beautiful views, the Smokey Mountains may be a better option. Whichever you choose, you’re sure to have an amazing hiking experience!

  1. I actually love the Smokeys more. They are centuries older than the Rockys, more settled, but since I love the leaves when they turn, the Smokeys have more of the colorful trees than the Rockys. Oh, yes, the Aspens are such a rich and lovely gold, but I am more a maple and dogwood person. The maroons and reds of the Smokeys draw me more than the rocky crags and barren tops of the Rocky’s.
